DROXON
Product & Branding Design

PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project focuses on developing a mobile application that enables users to control drones through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections. The app will allow users to move the drone, adjust camera settings, view live feed from the camera, plan and execute autonomous flights, access safety features, and of course a store to purchase drones and accessories. It's super easy to use, every droxon drone has a QR code the user scans to his mobile device and starts his flight, the app is super user-friendly with a simple and intuitive user interface.
THE PROBLEM
One of the main problems is the difficulty in controlling drones and capturing aerial footage using a traditional remote controller, which can be confusing and time-consuming for beginners. Another problem is the limited functionality of the remote controller, which makes it difficult to plan and execute complex flight patterns, such as mapping and surveying.
Furthermore, safety is a critical aspect of drone piloting, especially when flying in a public area.
THE GOAL
The app aims to simplify the process by providing an intuitive and user-friendly interface that enables easy drone control and camera settings adjustments, Also the app solves this issue by offering features such as flight planning, where users can pre-set waypoints, altitude, speed, and other parameters to guide the drone along a specific flight path, and the user controls the drone from any mobile device.
USER RESEARCH
I conducted 30 interviews to understand the needs, goals, and pain points of Drones users.
They were asked a series of questions such as: How often do you fly drones?
What type of drone do you currently own or plan to purchase?
What are your main reasons for flying drones?
What features do you look for in a drone controller app?
How important are the ease of use and intuitive interface for you when using a drone controller app?
Have you used any drone controller apps in the past? If yes, which ones and what did you like or dislike about them?
What features would you like to see in a drone controller app that is not currently available?
50% of the respondents fly drones on a weekly basis, while 30% fly them monthly, and 20% fly them less frequently.
DJI Mavic Air 2 and DJI Phantom 4 are the most popular drones among the respondents.
The main reasons for flying drones are aerial photography (60%), exploration and discovery (25%), and racing (15%).
The most desired features in a drone controller app are an easy-to-use interface (50%), real-time camera feed (40%), and flight planning tools (10%).
90% of the respondents rate the ease of use and intuitive interface as highly important when using a drone controller app.
40% of the respondents have used DJI Go app, and 20% have used DroneDeploy app. Most of them liked the real-time camera feed and flight planning features but found the interface confusing and cluttered.
The most requested features for a drone controller app are obstacle avoidance (30%), live tracking (25%), and automatic landing (15%).
