RIDER
Product & Branding Design

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Electric vehicles are revolutionizing how people get around, and Rider scooters are at the forefront of that change. To help Rider provide an even better product, I designed a modern, user-friendly mobile app that connects with every scooter manufacturer. This app allows you to add users and rent scooters for your friends and family so you can ride together anytime and enjoy a great experience. In this project, I created all the UI.UX and branding design.

THE PROBLEM

From a study I conducted among scooter users, 89% of the people use 3 different apps (Bird, Lime, and VeoRide) for renting scooters. Thus, they waste valuable time searching for an available scooter that's nearby.
Moreover, sometimes there are users who need to rent another scooter for their child or a friend and there is no such option to do so.

THE GOAL

The mission was to provide scooter users with a better product experience. We accomplished this by making it easier to find a scooter from several different companies. We created an option for users to rent multiple scooters in a simple and intuitive UI.UX.

USER RESEARCH

I conducted 20 interviews to understand the needs and behaviours of the user. The main user group identified by the research was 58% male and 42% female aged 17 to 43 years old. 18% were students and 82% work full-time and live in urban areas. 20% of them are in a relationship/married and have children.
They regularly use scooter rentals in the city to get from one place to another in order to study, work, shop, and have fun.
They were asked a series of questions such as:
How often do they rent scooters?
How much time do they spend on a scooter per day?
And how do they handle situations when a scooter isn't available to them?
We also asked for suggestions to improve the user experience of the product.
During the research, the pain points that came up were that you have to install 3 different apps and check each of them for a scooter that may be nearby and available. As well not all apps offer the possibility to add more users to rent multiple scooters at the same time.

PERSONAS

David M.  33
Product Manager

"I have many reasons to be busy, I am a married man with 2 children and work full-time at a high-tech company. I always get a ride with scooters. What I like the most is to get a ride with my 12-year-old son on the scooter that I rent for him and have fun together."

Problem Statement
David is a very busy man, who needs available and convenient transportation. It's important for him to have quality time with his son. They love to ride on scooters around the city together.

Frustrations
  • When there is no scooter available, he is required to search again for another scooter in a different app.

  • He cannot rent more than one scooter at a time for him and his son.

  • He had to use different apps to order more than one scooter, and the scooters were often far away from one another.

  • He felt that this was a waste of time.

Goals
  • Increase scooter availability through partner-ships or purchasing.

  • Allow multiple scooter rentals through a single account within the app.

  • Create an opportunity to order multiple scooters for family and friends in one app account, which are close to one another in an efficient way.

College student

"I like to get around easily and quickly with scooters because I can save time and money than travelling by taxi or public transport, riding a scooter reduces environmental pollution and the driving experience is so much fun."

Problem Statement
Rachel is a university student, who needs comfort and a cheap, available, fast and reliable form of transportation because she wants to save time, and money, and reduce environmental impact.

Frustrations
  • There is not always a scooter available in the area.
  • She has to open several different accounts in all kinds of scooter apps.
  • When there is no scooter available, she is required to
search again for another scooter in another application
  • Feeling frustrated and wasting time, she has to take a bus or Uber.

Goals
  • To open one application that is connected to all the scooters from all the companies in the area.
  • Get information in a simple and quick way where the nearest scooter is available.
  • Rent the scooter in a convenient and easy way.
  • Save time and money and reduce environmental pollution.

BRANDING

THE BRANDING

Branding is an important aspect of any business, and a scooter app is no different. When designing the branding for a scooter app, there are several factors that I'm considering:

Target audience: Who is Rider app aimed at?
Rider targeting urban commuters, tourists, or a combination of both

Visual identity: the branding should include a logo and other visual elements, such as colors and typography, that help to distinguish the app from others in the market.

Brand personality: Think about the personality of your brand. Is it fun and energetic, or more serious and professional? Your branding should reflect the personality of your app.

Brand message: What message do you want your branding to convey? Is your app focused on convenience, sustainability, or something else? Make sure your branding communicates this message effectively.

Consistency: It's important to maintain consistency in your branding across all channels, including your app, website, and social media accounts. This helps to establish a strong, cohesive brand identity.
